FACULTY OF NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCE

The primary objective of the Bachelor of Nursing Science (Honors) programme is to prepare competent nurses who are able to understand educational research and leverage it to improve the effectiveness of their practice through the creation of optimal teaching environments for all students.

• To provide knowledge and competency in nursing practice, locally and internationally.

• To engage in a team, apply critical and analytical thinking skills and communicate the information and idea to healthcare professionals and community effectively.

• To effectively practice the professional value with the ethical, moral and legal aspect in nursing practices.

• To be involved in lifelong learning and utilizing emerging technologies for successful career advancement.

• •To provide social skills and responsibilities to work as engaged professional nurses in building learning communities into the future.

Local Candidate

i.  Either one (1) of the followings below:

• Pass Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or *equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.5;

• Pass ‘A’ Level minimum Grade C in three (3) other subjects;

• Pass in Matriculation/Foundation with minimum CGPA 2.5;

• Pass any Diploma with minimum CGPA 2.5 (no credit transfer) equivalent MQF Level 4;

• Pass Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution by Malaysia Nursing Board without minimum two (2) years clinical working experience. (no credit transfer allowed)

• Pass Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution by Malaysia Nursing Board with minimum two (2) years clinical working experience. (credit transfer allowed)

• Possess current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nurses from Malaysian Nursing Board.

 AND 

ii.  All candidates who possess STPM, ‘A’ Level, Matriculation/Foundation and pass any Diploma except Diploma in Nursing MUST possess:

 Either one (1) of the credits below:

• Science/ Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Applied Sciences at SPM or its equivalent.

AND

• Credit in Bahasa Melayu and Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern) at SPM or its equivalent.

AND

iii.  MUET with minimum of Band 3/ English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with minimum score of 5.5/ Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with minimum score of 515 / 215 / 80 / Credit in English SPM

Foreign Candidate

i.  Either one (1) of the followings below:

• Pass Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or *equivalent with minimum CGPA 2.5;

• Pass ‘A’ Level minimum Grade C in three (3) other subjects;

• Pass Foundation with minimum CGPA 2.5;

• Pass any Diploma with minimum CGPA 2.5 (no credit transfer) *equivalent MQF Level 4;

• Pass Diploma in Nursing and Registered with the Nursing Council of the country of origin.

• Minimum two (2) years clinical working experience. (credit transfer allowed)

• Possess Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC) for nurses from Malaysian Nursing Board

AND

ii.  All candidates who possess STPM, ‘A’ Level, Foundation and pass any Diploma except Diploma in Nursing MUST possess:

 Either one (1) of the credits below (minimum grade C):

• General Science/ Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Applied Sciences at SPM or its *equivalent.

AND

• Credit in Bahasa Melayu and Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern) at SPM or its *equivalent. 

AND 

• English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with minimum score of 5.5/ Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with minimum score of 515 / 215 / 80.

Bachelor of Nursing Science

The programme is a well-balanced programme designed to impart knowledge in nursing skills along with nursing practices. The Nursing Science degree is a 4-year full-time programme. Individuals looking to work in the field of healthcare may opt for the specialization for more information. The programme prepares a student to become a registered nurse (RN), qualified to practice in different places either the public or private healthcare sectors. The programme enables the students for advanced positions in a variety of healthcare fields which will be not limited to the traditional K–12 classroom environment. Through the flexible format of the course the student can learn their schedule easily on their own. The current technology development and multimedia tools have the potential to enhance curriculum engagement that allow students to participate in the creation outside the classroom that will encourage creativity and increase excitement. The programme provides the students to learn and understand a whole range of nursing skills in addition to acquiring nursing practice. UNIMEL has Simulation Laboratory and Demonstration Laboratory which stimulates clinical environment ward setting. Moreover, there is a Community Health Laboratory which enhances the environment. With these facilities, the students acquire nursing skills before their clinical postings. Students gain their clinical experiences through hospitals and community healthcare postings while developing a better understanding of contemporary issues and challenges, and future directions in the field of healthcare. The programme is an advanced degree, which provides greater career options and the opportunity for a higher salary and to serve the community as well. Students are supervised and guided by lecturers, nurse educators and clinical instructors from UNIMEL and health practitioners from the both public and private sectors during the postings.
