KUIM TRANSFORMATION TO FULL UNIVERSITY

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly approved the establishment of the Melaka Islamic College (KIM) under the Melaka Islamic College Enactment on the 4th and 5th May 1994.

On the 3rd of September 1994, a total of 44 students were enrolled in the Diploma in Management and Islamic Administration; and Diploma in Marketing, becoming the first batch of students enrolled in the institutions. At the time, KIM only had the strength of 8 academic staffs. The first Convocation Ceremony was held at the Al-Azim Mosque and all 44 students successfully graduated.

The Melaka State Government Council Meeting No. 29/2001 agreed to upgrade the name of the Melaka Islamic College to Melaka Islamic College of Technology (KTIM), a company limited by guarantee. On the 7th of October 2005, the Registrar of Private Higher Education Institutions has approved the transfer of the KTIM name to the Melaka International Islamic College of Technology (KTIAM). In July of 2009, KTIAM was upgraded to what is now known as the Islamic University College of Melaka (KUIM).

Since its inception, KUIM has produced 12,950 graduates in various disciplines. With the current staff of 326 people in which 194 are lecturers from various fields, KUIM strives to become the first private Islamic University in Malaysia.

Through recommendations from the State Government, KUIM is moving forward with the goal of becoming a full-fledged university in the near future.

Various precise efforts and preparations have been undertaken so that this noble effort continues to bear fruit and gives meaningful impact to all the people of KUIM.

With psychology as its main expertise, KUIM is the first Institution of Higher Education (IPT) in Malaysia to develop educational programmes focusing on psychology at the Degree level. This is seen as a form of intervention which reduces psychological problems among individuals and communities while meeting the demands of the workforce in various public and private sectors. With all the outstanding performances and achievements, all the staff of KUIM regardless of their titles and positions are committed in making KUIM an internationally recognized center of study and well-known locally and globally.
